Dante's Tomb
Where the father of the Italian language rests, in the heart of Ravenna.
Dante Alighieri spent his last years in Ravenna and died here in 1321. The small neoclassical temple that holds his remains stands beside the basilica of San Francesco, in a zone of silence.
The visit is short and free. Step into San Francesco too: beneath the altar is a flooded crypt, with fish swimming above the mosaic floor.
