IAT, IAT-R, Welcome Room: what is the difference

  • IAT-R

    The main office of an area: open all year, staff speaking several languages, information on the whole area and often bookings of tours and hotels.

  • IAT

    The town's tourist information and welcome office: maps, events, museums, transport and tips on the town and around.

  • Welcome Room

    A smaller welcome point, often inside a museum or run by the Pro Loco: leaflets, maps and someone to ask.

  • Seasonal IAT

    The kiosks and offices of the beach resorts open only in summer, from spring to mid September.

Tips for using the tourist offices

  • It is all free

    Maps, leaflets and advice cost nothing. You only pay for the guided tours or tickets you decide to buy.

  • Write before you leave

    Almost all of them answer by email: ask in advance about events, museum hours or how to get there, so you leave with a plan.

  • In summer look for the kiosks by the sea

    From June to September the seasonal IATs open in the beach resorts, close to the beach: handy for evening events and markets.

  • Mondays and holidays

    Many offices close on Mondays or on Sunday afternoons. Before you go check the hours above or call.
