Malatestiana Library
In Cesena, a fifteenth-century library that has remained as it was.
Commissioned by Malatesta Novello, lord of Cesena, and opened in the mid fifteenth century, it was entrusted to the town: which is why it is considered the first civic library in Europe. The hall keeps its original desks with the manuscripts still chained to them.
Since 2005 it has been on the UNESCO Memory of the World register. The old hall can only be seen on an accompanied visit: check the times before you go.
Opening days, times and tickets change through the year: always check the official site before you set off.
