Towns and villages
Santarcangelo di Romagna
The hill town ten kilometres from Rimini: lanes, caves and osterie.
From the square with the Ganganelli Arch, dedicated to Pope Clement XIV who was born here, you climb through the lanes of the medieval town to the Malatesta fortress and the bell tower. Beneath the houses runs a network of caves dug into the tuff, partly open to visitors.
It is the home town of the poet Tonino Guerra and of two much-loved events: the street theatre festival in July and the Fair of Saint Martin in November.
Opening days, times and tickets change through the year: always check the official site before you set off.
