Palazzo Milzetti
The finest neoclassical palace in Romagna, painted by Felice Giani: now a national museum of the neoclassical age.
Count Nicola Milzetti commissioned its construction from 1792 onwards from the Faenza architect Giuseppe Pistocchi; his son Francesco continued the work with Giovanni Antonio Antolini. The result is the most complete house from that moment when Faenza was a small capital of neoclassical taste.
The rooms of the piano nobile were decorated until 1805 by Felice Giani and his workshop: painted ceilings with myths and gods, stuccowork, trompe-l'œil architecture, pastel colours. Each room has its own theme, from the stories of ancient heroes to the deities of love, right through to the bathroom in the ancient style.
On the ground floor you'll find the chapel, the bathroom in the ancient style and the garden. It's one of the few period residences to have survived with its original decorations so intact, and today it's a state museum.
It's just a few minutes' walk from the main squares. Free admission for under-18s and on the first Sunday of the month.
