Museo Civico Archeologico di Verucchio
The treasures of the Villanovans from almost three thousand years ago: wood, textiles, amber and even food extraordinarily preserved in the tombs of Verucchio.
Between the 9th and 7th centuries BC, Verucchio was an important centre of Villanovan civilisation, the earliest phase of the Etruscans. The museum displays what has emerged from excavations of the necropolises at the foot of the hill and the ancient settlement at the top.
What makes it unique is the preservation of organic materials: textiles, wooden furnishings, wicker containers and food remains that usually disappear within a few centuries have survived here to the present day. Alongside them, you'll find amber and bronze from the burial goods.
Among the most famous pieces are the grave goods from the princely tombs excavated in the 1970s at the Lippi estate, restored and displayed for the first time in Bologna in 1986.
The museum occupies the former monastery of Sant'Agostino, on three floors and eight rooms, just a few steps from the Rocca: with the combined ticket you can visit both.
