Arch of Augustus in Fano
The Roman gate of Fano, where the Via Flaminia reached the sea.
Fano was the Roman Fanum Fortunae. The Arch of Augustus, with its three openings, was the gateway for those arriving from Rome along the Via Flaminia, and is one of the few Roman monuments in the area to survive almost whole; long stretches of the walls remain beside it.
Fano is also a seaside town, with two beaches and a fishing harbour, and is famous for its Carnival.
