Villa romana di Russi
A large Roman farm discovered in a gravel quarry: mosaics, courtyards and country life from two thousand years ago.
In 1938, whilst digging for gravel near the River Lamone, the remains of a large Roman villa came to light. Excavations, resumed several times, have revealed a true agricultural estate, inhabited from the late 1st century BC until the late Empire.
You can see the residential part, with the master's rooms and black and white and coloured mosaic floors, and the rustic part, with the working areas, storerooms and courtyard. It is a rare example of a country villa from the Romagna plain, far from the luxury of imperial residences but very well preserved.
The site is located in a green area next to the lake created by the quarry, now a nature reserve: combine your visit with a walk along the embankment.
It is a state-owned site. Opening hours vary on weekdays and public holidays: phone before setting out.
