Piazza Nuova
An elliptical square enclosed by arcades, built in the 18th century as a market: today it's a courtyard of taverns and shops.
Bagnacavallo has one of the most original squares in Romagna. It was built in 1758-1759 as the town's covered market, with the fishmonger's and butchers' stalls: a perfect ellipse surrounded by a continuous arcade lined with shops.
Entering through one of the passages, the square opens up suddenly, and the sight is that of a small arena. The arcade is low, harmonious, plastered in the warm colours of Romagna.
Today under the arcades there are taverns and eateries serving traditional dishes: it's one of the most pleasant spots in the Bassa Romagna for an outdoor dinner in summer.
Bagnacavallo is worth a stroll for the rest of the centre too: the civic tower, the former convent of San Francesco, the Museo Civico delle Cappuccine. Everything is close by.
