Piazza Cavour
Rimini's medieval drawing room: the Palazzo dell'Arengo and Palazzo del Podestà, the Fontana della Pigna and Teatro Galli.
In Roman times, this was the site of the city's second forum; from the Middle Ages onwards it became the civic heart of Rimini. On one side stand the palaces of power: Palazzo Garampi, now the town hall, the Palazzo dell'Arengo, symbol of medieval Rimini, and the Palazzo del Podestà.
On the other side you'll find shops and cafés. At the far end of the square rises the Teatro Galli, in neoclassical style, inaugurated in 1857 by Giuseppe Verdi and rebuilt after the war. In the centre you'll find the statue of Pope Paul V and the Fontana della Pigna.
Behind the square is the Vecchia Pescheria, the fish market with its stone counters, and just a short walk away is Castel Sismondo with the Fellini Museum: from here you can explore the entire historic centre on foot.
The square is the setting for many of the city's events. In the evening, with the palaces lit up, it's one of the most beautiful spots in Rimini.
