Ducal Palace of Urbino
The palace of Federico da Montefeltro, heart of a UNESCO World Heritage city.
Built in the fifteenth century for Duke Federico da Montefeltro, it is one of the great palaces of the Renaissance. It houses the National Gallery of the Marche, with works by Piero della Francesca and Raphael, and the duke's Studiolo lined with wood inlays.
Urbino is the birthplace of Raphael and its historic centre has been a UNESCO site since 1998. It is all uphill: wear comfortable shoes.
