San Marino and the Three Towers
The world's oldest republic, on Mount Titano half an hour from Rimini.
The historic centre sits on top of Mount Titano, at over 700 metres, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. Along the ridge stand the three towers, Guaita, Cesta and Montale, linked by a scenic path.
In Piazza della Libertà stands the Palazzo Pubblico, the seat of government. You arrive by car at the car parks below the walls, or by the cable car that climbs from Borgo Maggiore.
Opening days, times and tickets change through the year: always check the official site before you set off.
