The Fellini Museum between Castel Sismondo and Palazzo del Fulgor, the Fulgor cinema, the murals of the Borgo, the Grand Hotel and the director's tomb.
Fellini was born in Rimini in 1920 and spent his whole life telling stories about it, from I vitelloni to Amarcord, even though he shot nearly all his films in Rome. This tour follows his places: the museum dedicated to him, the cinema where he watched his first films as a child, the Grand Hotel he dreamed of as a boy, and the monument where he rests with Giulietta Masina.

What you will see
1Fellini Museum and centre
Fellini Museum: Castel Sismondo 50 min
Opened in 2021, the museum is divided into three nearby locations. In the Malatesta fortress you'll find Fellini's costumes, drawings and dreams (he noted them down every morning in his 'Book of Dreams'), and scenes from his films projected onto the ancient walls of the fortress.
Closed on Mondays. One ticket covers all the museum sites.
Piazza Malatesta, the square of dreams 10 min
Between the castle and the Fulgor, the square has become part of the museum: a long pool of water that recalls the fortress moat, a mist veil that evokes the fog of Amarcord, and a large open-air amphitheatre for summer screenings.
Palazzo del Fulgor and cinema Fulgor 30 min
The eighteenth-century palazzo that houses the cinema Fulgor, where young Federico saw his first films and which appears in Amarcord. The auditorium was reopened in 2018 with décor designed by Oscar-winning set designer Dante Ferretti. On the upper floors, the second museum site, dedicated to his life and work.
The cinema auditorium can be visited when there are no screenings.
The murals of Borgo San Giuliano 20 min
On the other side of the Ponte di Tiberio, the houses of the fishermen's quarter are painted with scenes and characters from the films: Gradisca, the ocean liner Rex, Gelsomina and Zampanò from La strada. It's also the right place for a coffee or a piadina.
2Grand Hotel and Parco Fellini
Grand Hotel and Parco Federico Fellini 20 min
The Grand Hotel, opened in 1908, is the symbol of Belle Époque Rimini: for the young Fellini it was a forbidden castle, full of princesses and mysteries, and in Amarcord it becomes the place of dreams for the boys of the town. In the park in front, towards the sea, the Fontana dei Quattro Cavalli and the seafront.
The hotel is private: you can look from outside, or go in for a coffee at the bar.
3Cimitero Monumentale
The tomb of Fellini and Giulietta Masina 20 min
Fellini died in 1993 and rests with his wife Giulietta Masina in Rimini cemetery, beneath 'La Grande Prua', the bronze sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro that recalls the prow of a ship, like the Rex in Amarcord. A quiet moment that lovers of cinema won't forget.
Free admission during cemetery opening hours.
Tips
The museum is closed on Mondays: on that day, choose the 'Roman and Malatesta Rimini' tour instead.
If you've never seen it, watch Amarcord before you set off: the tour will feel like a film.
