The Two Towers
Asinelli and Garisenda, the leaning towers that symbolise Bologna.
In the Middle Ages Bologna had dozens of towers: just over twenty remain. The most famous are the Asinelli tower, almost a hundred metres high, and the nearby Garisenda, shorter and strongly leaning, mentioned by Dante in the Inferno.
Since 2023 the Garisenda has been under restoration to make it safe and the area around it is fenced off: before counting on the climb up the Asinelli, check on the Bologna tourism site whether it is open.
Opening days, times and tickets change through the year: always check the official site before you set off.
